My dogs!
My dogs!
So, I have two empress Labradors here and they are just the cutest little puppies I ever had! They are about a month old now, so I don’t know if I can consider these to be puppies anymore! They are absolutely the best of friends too which I love! I have had them for a month, the older puppy is called Layla and the younger puppy is called Bella! Layla is the more playful of the empress Labradors, while the other is much sulkier! Layla is black, and Bella is a more beige and original Labrador colour. Either way you will absolutely not see any cuter animals!
I came home from work the other day to see Layla ripping on paper while Bella was trying to fight her. Now, I don’t mind too much right now because they are relatively tiny compared to some dogs, but this is a worry for later down the line. If I don’t train their behaviours now, when they are much older and much bigger dogs this could really be an issue. Some of the sizes that these Empress Labradors can be are incredibly intimidating. Now if you have ever been to Smallville (this is a joke, there is no such place called Smallville!) you can guess that the homes here are really small too, and having these two giant tower dogs will just be asking for an issue if their behaviour continues.
I have recently got into touch with a behavioural therapist for animals which admittedly I didn’t realise was an actual job, but apparently, he has done good work with animals such as dogs and cats. So, I got into touch with him and he has given me a number of suggestions that I could do. Apparently sternly raising your voice without shouting at dogs can help suppress the dogs urges to attack, so when I have come home after work and I notice the dog’s behaviour becoming a bit more erratic, I have started to do so.
Another piece of advice he has given me for my pups is to show the dogs how important items are to me. Apparently surrounding yourself with items that dogs regularly attack has shown the dog that it is important to me that the empress Labradors do not try to harm them. It has worked for papers, but the dogs still scratch at the furniture even when I am sitting on them.
Admittedly I am not sure what I can do to make the dogs stop attacking my furniture, but I have started to yell at the dogs. Not often and not aggressively, but I just feel that the best way to show the dog that I do not want them to do something is to just make it clear how upset it has made me. It does work for the minute, but as soon as I show any emotions apart from anger it is as if the dog forgets that I do not like its behaviour. I don’t know what to do so I am considering getting someone in to try and sort this out. To have the behavioural therapist in the home might do a bit of good so I think it is definitely worth a try. Honestly the one problem that I do have is that the dogs are so cute that it really is hard to get angry at them. They are only puppies after all, and I don’t feel like they have been on earth long enough to even really know what they are doing. The world is still a big playground to them so I don’t want to be too harsh.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the blogs I will be making. Smallville Empress Labradors are really just a blog I want to make to talk about my cute little dogs, and I just hope that the blogs will be entertaining enough to be worth a read to anybody!
